Catholic Schools Week

January27 - February3,2008

“Catholic Schools Light the Way”

The theme highlights the spiritual foundation of Catholic schools as we work to help children learn to follow Jesus as disciples. The slogan reminds us that we are called to "light the way" to the kingdom for others even as we walk "the way" of discipleship and grow in faith ourselves.

ACADEMIC STATISTICS AND FACTS
ABOUT CATHOLIC SCHOOLS

There are 19 Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Superior.  Evidence for the superior performance of our students in the diocese comes from the Iowa Test of Basic Skills and the Cognitive Abilities Tests administered in October of each school year.  These test results show that our Catholic School students scored, on average, one year higher than their actual grade level.  For example, in October 2001, our 3rd, 5th, 6th, and 7th graders composite scores were above their grade levels.  These grades also scored an average of 20 points higher than the national norms.

New Richmond High School statistics show that 25% of valedictorians and salutatorians from 1945-1995 came from St. Mary's School.  In 2002, one of the valedictorians from NRHS is an alumni from our school.

One of the reasons why our students score high on tests is the student-teacher ratio which allows more time for one-on-one teaching.  Our classrooms average fifteen students to one teacher.  We have an excellent staff who have high expectations for all students, and strive to help them reach their goals.

Did you know that 13% of students who attend Catholic Schools nationwide are Christian denominations other than Catholic?  Here at St. Mary's, we exceed the national average by 5%.  This means that 18% of our student population isn't Catholic.  That number represents 22 students out of 123.  All of our students share their faith in God along with the faculty, parents, and staff.  Our mission is to embrace each other and we do so by our shared Christian values.
