Parents Handbook
STUDENT, EMPLOYEE, AND
VOLUNTEER SEXUAL HARASSMENT
St. Mary’s School shall maintain
a learning and working environment, which is free from sexual harassment.
Therefore; No student, employee or school volunteer shall harass a student,
employee or school volunteer through conduct or communications.
For policy purposes, harassment
is defined as:

Unwelcome sexual advances;

Requests for sexual favors and
other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature;

Submission to such conduct is
made either explicitly or implicitly a term or condition of student learning
and grade performance;

Submission or rejections of
such conduct is used as the basis for special treatment or denial to the
learning environment;

Such conduct interferes with
learning performance or creates a hostile learning environment;

Harassment may include but is
not limited to verbal harassment or abuse, pressure for sexual activity,
remarks to a person which include inappropriate language or jokes with
sexual implications, unwelcome touching or unsolicited and inappropriate
gestures, suggesting or demanding sexual involvement accompanied by implied
or explicit threats.
Students, employees, and volunteers
are mandated to immediately report any instances of harassment to the principal.
In the principal’s absence, the pastor or designated faculty member covering
for the principal receives the report. Enforcement of this policy
and complaints regarding allegations of harassment shall be processed according
to established procedures. All complaints shall be kept confidential
to the maximum extent possible.
A substantial charge of harassment
against a student, employee, or volunteer shall subject him/her to appropriate
disciplinary action including suspension, expulsion, or discharge.
The principal is responsible
for coordinating federal regulation concerning harassment in his/her work
site.
